CAN FAULT Error — Diagnosis and Repair
CAN FAULT (also E101, E103, ERR-22, F-28 depending on software) means loss of communication between modules via CAN bus ISO 11898-2. The typical Hangcha/Heli CAN network includes: VCU, MCU (Hitachi controller), BMS, display, hydraulic controller.
Step 1 — Measure CAN Bus Resistance (Power Off)
Disconnect battery. Measure resistance between CAN-H and CAN-L on diagnostic connector: 60 Ω = correct (two 120 Ω terminators parallel). 0 Ω = short circuit, blown transceiver inside controller. 120 Ω = one terminator missing or wiring break. Over 200 Ω = complete break in harness.
Step 2 — Identify the Faulty Node
Disconnect CAN connectors from each module (MCU, BMS, hydraulics) one by one and measure bus resistance after each disconnection. When disconnecting a particular module returns resistance to 120 Ω — that module has a blown CAN transceiver inside its controller board.
CAN Transceiver Repair in Hitachi Controller
The blown chip (TJA1050, TJA1051T/3, SN65HVD251) is replaced by SMD rework. Package SO-8. Chip cost: 2-8 PLN. Work time: 30 minutes. Result: full CAN communication restored, fault code cleared. 12-month warranty on repaired PCB.
No Contactor Coil Drive — E045, CONTACTOR FAULT
Forklift does not drive or lift, main contactor (Albright SW180, Danfoss 018F6834) does not engage. Causes: blown MOSFET IRFP4568 (gate driver to coil), shorted freewheeling diode 1N5408 / P6KE75A, missing PWM signal from DSP (check buffer 74HC245), shorted contactor coil (resistance below 10 Ω for 48V model instead of 60-80 Ω). Repair: 400-1,000 PLN.
IGBT FAULT — E050, POWER STAGE FAULT
DSP detects abnormal phase currents or DC-link voltage. Causes: blown IGBT module CM300DY-24H or CM150DY-24H (short circuit C-E in ohm test), failed Hall-effect current sensor LEM LA 55-P, ceramic substrate delamination (fault appears after 20-30 min warmup). Repair: 800-2,500 PLN.

FAQ
- Hangcha XC20 shows CAN FAULT E101 on startup. What does it mean?
- E101 on XC20 is communication loss between VCU and MCU (Hitachi AC2 or ZAPI H2 controller). First: measure CAN-H to CAN-L resistance with battery disconnected. If 0 Ω — send MCU controller to service (blown TJA1051 transceiver). If 60 Ω — check harness or VCU.
- Heli CPD20 does not drive, main contactor does not click. Code E045. Controller or contactor?
- Measure contactor coil resistance (Albright SW180): should be 60-80 Ω for 48V. If OK — controller fault (MOSFET IRFP4568). If below 10 Ω or open circuit — replace contactor before controller repair.
- Is calibration lost after repair?
- No. Motor calibration parameters are stored in EEPROM and are not affected by mechanical repair. Only DSP mainboard replacement requires reconfiguration via JTAG — performed in our workshop.
