An HMI (Human Machine Interface) panel is the eye and hand of the operator on every modern industrial machine — production lines, CNC machining centres, injection moulding machines, cranes, industrial ventilation and water treatment plants. A failed HMI panel means immediate production stoppage: the operator cannot enter parameters, check alarms or confirm recipes. Every hour of downtime costs thousands in lost production. Acore from Knurow (serving customers from Gliwice, Katowice, Zabrze, Rybnik, Tychy, Ruda Slaska, Bytom, Mikolow, Wodzislaw Slaski and all of Poland) specialises in component-level repair of HMI panels — we replace the damaged screen, digitizer, backlight inverter, main board or power supply without buying a new device for several thousand PLN.

Most Common HMI Panel Failures — Diagnosis and Repair
1. No Touch — Panel Does Not Respond to Touch
The most common fault in both resistive and capacitive panels. Display works and shows image but clicks do not register. Causes:
- Worn resistive membrane — ITO (indium tin oxide) film layer wears out after 2–5 million touches or mechanical damage. Test: measure resistance between X+ and X− electrodes (should be 200–700 Ω), between Y+ and Y− (200–700 Ω). OL or below 50 Ω = replacement mandatory. Repair: 600–1,800 PLN.
- Damaged FPC/FFC ribbon cable — flat cable between membrane and main board breaks from vibration. Symptom: partial no-touch (one axis works, other does not). Repair: 300–800 PLN.
- Failed touch controller chip on PCB — TSC2003, AR1021, XPT2046. Measure SPI/I2C signal between controller and CPU. No signal = blown IC. SMD repair: 500–1,200 PLN.
- Capacitive touch calibration loss — in cMT panels, Siemens KTP Comfort (capacitive), Beckhoff CP3921: FT5x26, GT9271 chip loses calibration after overvoltage. Recalibration via service port or chip replacement.
2. Black Screen — Nothing Lights Up or Faint Fading Image
- Flashlight test — shine a flashlight at a 45° angle to the dark screen. If you see a faint dim interface image — certain: main board works, problem is in backlight (CCFL inverter or LED strip). No image at all = check 24V supply or main board.
- CCFL inverter failure — older generation panels (GOT1000, NS5/NS8, XBTGT, GP3000) use CCFL lamp. Inverter converts 5V DC to 400–1000V AC HF. After 3–5 years: replacement with LED backlight kit. Repair: 400–900 PLN.
- Failed LED backlight driver — new panels use LED drivers (AL8860, MP3394). Measure voltage on LED strip: 12–30V DC for 7–10" panels. 0V = failed LED driver. Repair: 350–700 PLN.
- Failed LCD module — if backlight works (visible light from rear) but no image: damaged TFT matrix or LVDS/eDP controller. LCD module replacement: 800–2,500 PLN.
3. Cracked Screen — Broken Display or Digitizer
- Digitizer-only replacement — if LCD matrix is intact and only touch overlay is cracked: replace overlay only. Cost: 400—1,200 PLN.
- Full LCD + digitizer assembly replacement — if TFT matrix is cracked (liquid crystal pooling visible): full module replacement. Cost: 900—3,500 PLN.
- Note: GOT2000, Siemens Comfort — glass bonded to digitizer — capacitive panels have protective glass UV-bonded to matrix. Replacement requires heating and precision debonding. Repair: 1,200—3,000 PLN.
4. Panel Does Not Power On — No Power or Display Flickers and Dies
- Unstable 24V DC supply — most common cause. Measure voltage directly at the panel power connector (not on the PSU display). Acceptable range: 20.4–28.8V. Below 20V = cabinet PSU overloaded or failed, not the panel.
- Failed internal DC-DC converter — 5V, 3.3V, 1.8V rails for CPU. Most often fails after external overvoltage or reverse polarity. Blown: LM2596, TPS54560, MP2307. Repair: 400—1,200 PLN.
- Boot loop — flickering and restart — aging electrolytic capacitors on main board (ESR degradation at high temperature). Symptom: panel shows logo, resets, repeats. Capacitor replacement: 300–700 PLN.
- Dead RTC / BIOS battery — CR2032 or ML2020. Panel boots very slowly (2–3 min RTC sync) or shows RTC Error. Replacement: 100–250 PLN.
5. No Communication — Panel Works but Cannot Connect to PLC
- Failed RS-485 / RS-422 port — MAX485, SN75176, ADM485 transceiver chip. Symptom: "Error communication", "No connection to PLC". SMD repair: 350–700 PLN.
- Failed Ethernet port — LAN8720, DP83848 PHY chip or magnetics transformer. Symptom: no network link LED. Repair: 400–900 PLN.
- Failed CF/SD card or Flash with project — panel starts but shows "Project file not found" or "Application error". Repair: CF data recovery and Flash reprogramming. Cost: 500—1,500 PLN.

FAQ
- Siemens KTP700 Basic does not respond to touch but display works. What is it?
- KTP700 Basic uses a 4-wire resistive membrane. Most common causes: (1) worn ITO layer after 3+ million touches, (2) cracked 10-pin FPC ribbon cable from membrane to board, (3) failed TSC2046 chip on PCB. Send the model number and a photo — we will give you a quote in 2 hours.
- Mitsubishi GOT2000 GT2715 has a cracked screen. Is repair worth it?
- GT2715 (15") is expensive — new unit costs 12,000–18,000 PLN. LCD module with digitizer replacement is 1,800–3,200 PLN. Definitely worth repairing. Important: check if the main board is also damaged (impact can crack BGA solder under the CPU). Diagnostics included in repair price.
- Weintek MT8071iE does not light up after power on. How to tell what failed?
- Step 1: measure voltage at panel power connector — should be 24V DC (±10%). Step 2: press and hold reset for 10 sec — if panel beeps — board is alive, problem is backlight. Step 3: shine flashlight at screen — faint image visible = LED inverter failure. Nothing visible = PSU or main board failure.
- Schneider XBTGT5330 shows "Application error" after software update. Repairable?
- Yes. XBTGT5330 stores project in NAND Flash. If update failed or power was cut during upload — Flash is partially overwritten. We flash bootloader and project via USB or RS-232 service port. Condition: you have a project backup (.xbt file). If not — we attempt Flash memory recovery.
- HMI panel was flooded with coolant oil. Can it be saved?
- In most cases yes, if the panel was powered off when flooded. We perform ultrasonic cleaning in isopropanol bath, then drying at 60°C for 4h, magnified PCB inspection — replacement of corroded components. If panel was powered on during flooding — repair chance 40–60% (short circuit may have damaged CPU or Flash).
- How long does repair take for a panel sent from Warsaw or Wroclaw?
- DPD/DHL courier delivers to Knurow next business day. Diagnostics: 2–4 hours from receipt. Shipping of repaired panel: 1–4 business days from diagnostics. Full cycle: 3–7 business days for most panels.
